Suddenly, there came a fleshy thump from an indeterminable direction.
Rae's eyes shot up and scanned the room, but found nothing. As his heart pounded and his breath stuck in his throat, he heard the echo of the thump turn into shuffling, like someone dragging a big bag of stone across the ground.
"Hide!" Rae hissed, and grabbed a skewer; there was no way his spear would be enough to kill a dragon. He slipped behind a stalagmite, and heard the shuffling grow louder to be accompanied by barely audible rhythmical thumps.

There was a week that autumn when everything went wrong. I lost my cell phone on the buss and my parents gave me a hard time about it, there were like four major tests in school and I had my parent-teacher meeting.
My ‘mentor’ at the time was a really good but also very strict teacher who seemed to like me somewhat. I can’t remember all we talked about during the meeting but I know some things were quite bad, like I have been too lazy in religion A or could do better in electronics or whatever.
